The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in removing dog hair. They do have some flaws however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. Also, it doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and works when you're at work or in school. The only thing it's missing that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop utilizes sensors that help it keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the patterns of your home over time and offer better cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum with mop vacuum and mop combination features a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its more expensive competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the autonomous vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It is equipped with a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
